Dule Ellington concert poster

Big Band
concert posters

I will pay top dollar for original Big Band concert posters like these: Duke Ellington and His Famous Orchestra in Scranton, PA, Aug. 28, 1934; Jimmie Lunceford and His Orchestra in Carbondale, PA, Aug. 14, 1934; the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra in Pottstown, PA, Nov. 14, 1936; Woody Herman and His Orchestra in Ithaca, NY, May 26, 1939; Benny Goodman and His Orchestra in Johnson City, NY, Jan. 19, 1940; and Glenn Miller and His Orchestra in Johnson City, NY, April 26, 1940. These posters are all original, all printed before the event for the sole purpose of selling tickets.

These authentic concert posters are all from the peak of swinging orchestras’ popularity in the 1930s and early 40s, before the big-band craze started to subside after the end of World War II. Hard to believe that a large orchestra, not to mention the ballroom rental, could be supported by just a $1.00 admission price (Ellington, Dorsey and Goodman) - or even a meager 75 cents (Lunceford). One dollar today won’t even buy you a bottle of water at a solo singer-songwriter show!
